Talkwalker Team Comes Second In Global AI Challenge

Here at Talkwalker, we work hard to provide our clients with the best social data intelligence as well as the best service possible. But the individuals behind the platform are even more impressive: a team formed by some of our amazing developers just took second place in the Allen AI Science Challenge!

“Our team included specialists from the fields of Data Science, Natural Language Processing, Big Data Engineering and Search Technologies, and it is this unique combination of different sets of skills which made this success possible,” said team leader Dr. Benedikt Wilbertz.

Over 780 teams from all over the world took part in the competition, which challenged scientists to create an Artificial Intelligence system that would be able to answer an 8th-grade level multiple choice science test with questions such as this one:

Allen Institute AI Competition Question

Sample question provided in the Allen Institute press release

Where is the challenge in that? In order to be successful, the program would have to be able to understand the nuances of each question (e.g. what does it mean for light to “hit” something?) rather than merely sorting through its information database. Based on its understanding of the question, the machine would then have to use its knowledge to reason on the most likely answer.
