Before diving into individual social media stats, let’s briefly review the United States population.
Population
- The US currently has a population of 327.9 million
- Median age is 38.1, 15 years below Monaco’s, but almost 23 years above Niger’s

As can be seen in the graph, age groups 18-24 and 25-34 make up almost exactly the same proportion, averaging 40.8% and 40.7% respectively. 13-17 year-olds are the runners-up with a share of 8.2%. Occupying the fourth spot are 35-44 year-olds with 7.8%.

No big surprise to see that English is the most common language (85.5%) on social media in the US. Very far behind is Tagalog (2.6%), followed by Spanish (1.9%), Portugese (1.4%), and then Japanese (1.2%).
General social media stats
- Number of active social media users stayed flat over the past year at 230 million or 70% of the total population
- Growth of mobile social media users also stayed flat over the past year at 200 million or 61% of the total population
- The average daily time spent on social media per user is currently 2 hours and 4 minutes

- 54 percent of Facebook members have used the social network via phone
