Germany vs Argentina - Performance on and off the field : How the players fare in social media
It’s official: the FIFA Worldcup 2014 will be decided between Germany and Argentina. After Germany’s landslide 7-1 victory over Brazil in Belo Horizonte, Argentina defeated the Dutch team 4-2 after penalty shootout and will now face Germany in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. As we have done for the semi-finals between Germany and Brazil as well as Argentina and the Netherlands, we haven taken yet another peek at the player's social media performance.
Sentiment for the Netherlands-Argentina semi-final was rather neutral
Expectations for the second semi-final had been high after the incredible game the day before. However, viewers were not impressed with the performance they saw on the field during the second semi-final match of the Worldcup in Brazil.
Argentina’s goalkeeper is very engaged
Sergio Romero of the Argentinian La Albiceleste showed himself an engaged goalkeeper during the penalty shootout and brings this engagement to social media as well. Dutch keeper Jasper Cillessen let the ball pass only twice more during the semi-final, but it was enough to end the Netherlands’ dream of the 2014 Worldcup.
Manuel Neuer gains Internet fame
During the game between Germany and Brazil, it felt as if the only attacks on a goal happened on the Brazilian side of the field. German goalkeeper Manuer Neuer seemed to have very little work to do – and the Internet noticed. Memes with him reading a book or just taking a rest in front of his goal appeared almost immediately. We’re hoping for a final game as intense as the semi-finals and look forward to Sunday!
